Sanderling

Heavy rain arrived overnight but not before the humid conditions brought in my highest moth catch of the year with 80 months of 27 species including 8 species new for the year while a check on Dave’s trap while he is still away in Latvia produced a photographic first for Bob in the form of Clouded-bordered Brindle which was only the 3rd record for Dave and the first since 2011.

A visit to the pond showed that two Sanderling were brought down by the rain and were busy feeding up. Closer view of one showed it had multi coloured rings on both legs and we are waiting for a reply from the BTO on details. A Cuckoo was heard which is my first for the year here and the only other birds of note were 150 Swift, Yellow Wagtail, Buzzard 11 and 3 Gadwall.
