Fishing stops play

Decided to miss the pond as it was the start of the fishing season and spent some time on Lawford Heath but apart from 8 Buzzard and a single Raven it was devoid of birds.

Next stop was Brandon Marsh where we chatted with Paul before a wander around the reserve produced Nuthatch, 2 Buzzard, Sparrowhawk, 5 Shelduck, 2 Oystercatcher, male and female Goldeneye, plenty of Reed Bunting and both Water Rail and Cettie’s Warbler heard but not seen. No sign of the Bittern and did not look for the Mealy Redpoll and we could not find out any information on a Firecrest sighting that had been written up on the white board in the visitor’s centre. No location or observer. As we were leaving a Stonechat flew alongside the car halfway along the entrance road.
Called in on Bretford on the way home where there still 34 Mute Swan, 100 Wigeon, Buzzard and a Hare. Two Goldfinch in the garden today and 2 female Goosander flew over heading north east this evening.
